Since so many of you have been asking:
We are keeping up-to-date registries through
TARGET -- shop in-store or at http://www.target.com/. Search under our names "Brii Tyson" or "Travis Tyson."
Link directly via https://www.target.com/registry/baby/2AGPNC2C9IHD8.
AMAZON.COM -- shop online at various websites and on amazon through http://www.amazon.com/. Search under our names "Brii Tyson" or "Travis Tyson."

Since we do not know Baby T's gender, we do ask that clothing or colorful items not be pink, purple, or "overtly girly," i.e. ruffles, bows, and butterflies. We have registered through Amazon for many of the cloth diapering supplies that we will need to get started and request that these items be prioritized.
It looks like the Vidalia area baby shower hosted by Maria Gibase will be the afternoon of Sunday, April 10; the Statesboro area friends and family baby shower hosted by Shay Morgan and Janelle Wiley will be sometime in May; and the Pike County area after shower will be held in late June after Baby T arrives.
Thank you all for being as excited as we are to meet Baby T!

Nathan & Megan's Wedding
After ten years of dating, it has finally happened! Nathan and Megan are married!
This past weekend was amazing--Nate (Travis's youngest brother) & Megan, who started "going out" in the 8th grade, got married and our entire family was in town for the weekend. Travis's brother Justin and his wife Casie stayed with us. We were especially glad for a little extra time with them, as they are moving to Mississippi this spring (Justin technically moved on Sunday after the wedding, and Casie will follow in June after her teaching contract in Aiken, SC ends---follow their excellent blog at http://www.justinandcasie.blogspot.com/ ).
Friday night was the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner at Statesboro Inn. The food was delicious--chicken, ham, broccoli casserole, roasted potatoes, macaroni and cheese, fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and dinner rolls. I think there was ice cream and peach cobbler for dessert, but I opted for seconds on the potatoes instead of a sweet for dessert.
Saturday, the boys helped set up the reception space, while Casie and I attended a fabulous bridesmaids brunch (we were both honoraries) thrown for Megan by her aunts. After numerous pictures, it was finally time for the big moment--and big it was. There was "standing room only" for the wedding at Statesboro Primitive Baptist. I'd estimate there were about 400 people there. The reception was held at Statesboro's newest venue The Bell House. It was amazing. The food was really outrageous with a prime rib carving station; fresh fruit, cheese and cracker table; cocktail weinies and meatballs (because what wedding would be complete without them?!); taco bar with chicken and beef; and a shrimp-and-grits and mashed potatoe bar. YUUUUM! Travis and I both overindulged a bit, but it was so worth it!
Of course, the best part of the weekend was getting to see our nieces Gabriela and Lilian. They are both growing and changing so quickly, and we miss them so much since they are all the way in Iowa! We've been incredibly lucky, though, that Eric and Emily (Travi's sister) like to travel a lot and come visit as often as they can. Again, sorry for the quality of the pictures--they are just cell phone pics, and I know that Casie will have some good ones posted on her blog taken with her fancy new camera!

Who could resist that face?!
A girl after my own heart--she already loves purses! Gabi really liked my hot pink purse and the Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer attached to it!
Gabi on the go, as always, and Emily and Lili in the background.
Her grin gets bigger everytime I see her!
Lilibelle being cute. Doesn't Emily look stunning?! Best bridesmaids dress ever!

Lili had little trouble keeping her shoes on :-) Last time we saw here, she barely held her head up for long--now look at her!
Sorry it's been so long...
It was recently brought to my attention that I have been a little lax lately in updating the blog, and I'm sorry! I really do plan to update more frequently in the future--things have just been a little crazy around here with Travis and I both in our busiest time of year and getting ready for Baby T.
The Spring is always a bit frantic for Travis, since Lowes does its biggest amount of business for the year during this time. People begin renovating and landscaping, and Travis gets to deal with all the pleasantness that comes with a job in customer service. He has lots of stories, but I'll let him tell them ;-)
For me, Spring is recital time. This is what we work for all year in the dance studio, and this year, I feel some extra pressure since it's my first as studio owner--I want it to be fabulous and show everyone what a great transition this year was for Vidalia Ballet. I also have performances for Statesboro School of Dance coming up after my own, but because of my due date, it looks like I'll be missing that one this year. Good thing my girls have worked so hard!
All that said, this year's spring craziness is just a bit magnified as we anticipate Baby T's arrival. My Vidalia Ballet recital is May 7, my due date is May 28 (Memorial Day Weekend, aka Lowes' busiest weekend of the spring), and the Statesboro School of Dance recitals are June 4. Somewhere in there will be a Vidalia friends baby shower in April and a family, friends, and Statesboro friends baby shower in May. Yeesh.
Speaking of baby showers, I will update the blog with information as it comes in. I am incredibly grateful to my gracious friends Janelle Wiley and Shay Morgan who are throwing my Statesboro shower and Maria Gibase who is hosting my Vidalia shower. I could not ask for more thoughtful people in my life. We have up-to-date baby registries at both Target (shop in-store or at http://www.target.com/ ) and Amazon.com (which includes both an Amazon registry and a Universal registry since some of the cloth diapering supplies we need come from other websites but can be purchased easily through the Amazon registry. Just click on the "Gifts & Wish Lists" tab on the http://www.amazon.com/ homepage, click on "Baby Registry" on the left side of the screen under the "Browse" tab, and search for Brii Tyson or Travis Tyson.)
We actually received our first baby gift off the registry yesterday! It was so exciting getting an unexpected package in the mail and even more exciting that it was from my Uncle Dib, whom I haven't seen since my family moved from Virginia! We received two cloth pocket diapers (one in a mango color and one in a cow print) and the "Snappis," which are kind of the modern version of the sharp and cumbersome pins that used to be necessary to fasten cloth diapers. The diapers were even cuter in real life, and this baby is going to have a seriously precious "cow butt!"
Baby Tyson is continuing to grow, so I thought I'd post come new belly pictures, too.
Here's the last pic I posted of Baby T at 23 weeks:
And since then Baby T has definitely continued his or her outward growth!
Baby T has continued to be very active, especially at night. I am pretty sure that I'm growing more of a ninja than a baby, but we'll just have to wait and see.
I did finally break down and buy some maternity clothes at right around 27 weeks. I had previously gotten one pair of maternity jeans from a local boutique (bought at about 25 weeks) that I've been wearing, but for everything else I've stuck with my normal t-shirts, more forgiving cuts on my dressier tops, and my athletic/dance pants for work. I started to get a little worried, though, about stretching my t-shirts out too much and not being able to wear them in the future, so I went on a little shopping trip. Motherhood Maternity and JCPenney ended up having the best scores, and after a verrrry long day of shopping (by myself!) in Savannah, I came home with 7 new shirts, two dresses (one maternity, one not), and several new undergarments. Yay! And I have to say, the shirts and jeans are especially comfy! It's nice not to have to worry about if my t-shirt is completely covering my ever-expanding belly! :-)
We did finally snag a crib, thanks to a friend-of-a-friend and a very kind brother-in-law (Nathan) who loaned us his truck and man muscles for the morning (on the day of his wedding rehearsal, no less!). It needs a fresh coat of paint, so I'll post pics once that's done. I am also hoping that week after next I'll be able to get going on painting the nursery and getting things set up in there while the dance studio is on spring break. I can't wait to get started!

We've officially made the switch!
As some of you already know, we have been in-process over the last month of switching from my current OBGYN to The Midwife Group & Birth Center in Savannah. Well, as of yesterday, it became official. The remainder of our pregnancy will be cared for by the CNMs of The Midwife Group, and as long as this pregnancy remains low-risk and goes past 37 weeks, we will also be delivering in the attached Birth Center--sadly, the only free-standing birth center in the state of Georgia. Their website is linked below the photo.
I can't tell you how excited I am about this! Ever since deciding to become a mother, I have known that I would want to take as natural and intervention-free a route as possible. Maybe this desire comes from having witnessed my little brother's birth when I was 7, which was in a hospital attended by a midwife, and my little sister's birth when I was 10, which was at home and also attended by a midwife. (Incidentally, my Mom had me in a birth center and was attended by a midwife then, too.) Or maybe this desire comes from the trust I have in my body, which carries me faithfully (if a bit "sorely") through hours upon hours of an extremely physical job and has not failed me yet. Don't get me wrong. I am grateful for the technology we have and the fact that OBGYNs and caesareans and epidurals exist for the times that they are needed. However, I also strongly believe that my body was designed for this and will do its best (with my help) to handle birth as womens' bodies have for millions of years. I don't look down upon anyone who has or needs or chooses a caesarean section or pain medication (those things exist for a reason); however, if I can avoid putting in or doing anything unnecessary to my body, I'd like to.
I don't kid myself that giving birth will not be the most intense and extreme experience of my life. I am planning to use Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method, which I have been practicing since about 14 weeks. My sister-in-law Emily introduced me to this method, which combines self-hypnosis and guided relaxation. As a child, I was deathly afraid of the dark, so much so that my mother often stayed with me in bed until I fell asleep until about the age of 10! After much hysterical crying (on my part) and trial and error (on my Mom's part), we found the only thing that helped me work through my night-terrors were relaxation tapes. I would go to sleep listening to one, following the directions of the guided relaxation/meditation and, for the first time in my life, I was able to fall asleep on my own! I've found the Hypnobirthing to be quite similar, and so far have had great success with practicing and employing the techniques. I won't bore you with all the details, but the general concept is that fear and tension cause physiological and chemical responses in our bodies, the most notable to which is increased pain and anxiety. When the mental and physical resistance of fear is erased and relaxation and proper breathing employed, your body is better able to follow and complete its/your own natural birthing instincts. You can explore the Hypnobirthing principles in more depth through the website www.hypnobirthing.com.
They have a great FAQs page that can help you get oriented with the concepts and techniques...
One of the things I liked best about the Birth Center was that they encourage this type of birth preparation and are willing to accomodate an individual woman's/couple's wishes regarding their birth experience. Safety is, of course, considered first, and both the Midwives and the Birth Center have the full protocol to handles numerous emergency situations for both the mother and baby. They are backed by a couple of different OBs in Savannah and have privileges at St. Joseph's Candler Hospital, which is just 8 minutes door-to-door were a transfer to be needed. The Birth Center, however, offers much that the hospital does not in regards to the natural birthing experience. Mothers are encouraged to move around and utilize the helpful effects of gravity during labor. There are birthing balls, stools, showers, and (my personal favorite!) jacuzzi tubs available to help release tension and work through contractions. Each birthing room has a queen-sized bed, jacuzzi tub, rocking chair, microwave, refrigerator, huuuge bathroom with huuuge shower, and numerous cabinets hiding all of the prerequisite medical supplies/equipment. When we toured the facility, Travis and I loved it immediately, and knowing that we hope to have a water birth, it seemed to be the perfect fit!
Excitement is building around here now that I am officially "showing," and we are quickly realizing how much there still is to do to prepare for Baby T's arrival. Now that we have officially (as of today!) finished unpacking all the boxes from our move into the duplex, we have a laundry list of tasks to accomplish over the next month or so. In the next couple of weeks, we hope to get Baby T's/our spare bedroom painted and the crib and a few decorations moved in. By the end of February, I hope to have our baby registries completed. (We decided to register at Target and Amazon.com, since many of our friends and family lived out-of-town or out-of-state.) And we aren't really buying anything yet, since we still have shower gifts to look forward to! I promise to put up pictures as Baby T's room begins to take shape, and I still need to put up pics of the new apartment now that the unpacking has finally ceased!
Time is flying, and my belly is growing. With just 14 weeks left until my due date, it'll be here before we know it!

Our first appointment was sort of an introduction to The Midwife Group's prenatal process. We met as a group with the Midwife who founded the group 23 years ago and several other soon-to-be parents who were also transferring into their care. We learned how to take our blood pressure, use their scale, and got a lot of necessary paperwork out of the way. Everything looked good: blood pressure was normal and I have gained 4 lbs since my last OB appointment, making my total 6 lbs in the pregnancy so far. And on that note, I doubt I'll be sharing that much info about my weight gain from here on out ;-) since that number promises to continue climbing -- LOL -- I just tell myself that 1 lb for each month I've been pregnant is not too bad! I was actually mentally geared up to find that I had gained a lot more because my body seems to have changed so much so suddenly! But mostly my current weight just seems to be shifting around--my waist is almost gone, but on the plus side, so are my love-handles! Hehehe!

Valentine's Day
Just wanted to post a couple pics from our Valentine's Day dinner out...
We went to Olive Garden thanks to a the unused Wedding Anniversary gift card we received from Travis's parents! It was delish! And thanks to Emily, Trav's sister, I actually had a maternity dress to wear--and it even had pink in it!

Baby Tyson is growing...
In the past few weeks, it has been brought to my attention that Baby Tyson is growing like you would not believe! I'm not sure what tipped me off...
...it could've been the fact that the button on my jeans are starting to cut off my circulation, or
...that my belly is causing my dance pants to slide down, or
...that one of my teenage dance students exclaimed, "You're belly is bigger just from last week!", or
...that one of the baby books says, "During weeks 20-23, your baby is growing, growing, growing. At the end of this month, he or she will weigh 10-12 ounces and measure nearly 10 inches long, about the the length of a large eggplant or papaya." (The Joy of Pregnancy by Tori Kropp), or
...that another book says, "By week 23, your uterus extends about 1.5 inches above your bellybutton!" (Your Pregnancy Week By Week, 6th ed. by Glade B. Curtis & Judith Schuler)
So, with that in mind, I thought it might be time for a little picture comparison showing Baby T's growth!

Lessons Learned in Pregnancy...
- Pregnancy occurs in a time warp...
- Feeling the baby move for the first time...
- You will have to go to the bathroom during the night...
- And on that note...
- In the same vein...
- Oh, the cravings...
- The minute you start to show...
...and you will start to compulsively rub your tummy. This is a sort of self-conscious attempt to let people know you are actually pregnant and did not simply have one too many slices of red velvet cake over the holidays.
- People will say conflicting things to you...
Both of these things will worry you. You'll be grateful to not be too big too soon, but you'll also wonder why you're smaller than other women at the same number of weeks. Or, you'll be depressed that you suddenly look so pregnant and you're feelings of being "huge" have been confirmed.
- You will obsessively Google...
(And, by the way, if you don't know what "Baby Legs" are, please Google them and find out if you think they are as weird as I do. Mind you, this is coming from someone who wears legwarmers for a living.)
- And finally...
YOU WILL FREAK OUT. YOU WILL LOSE IT. YOU WILL KNOW THAT YOUR FREAK OUT IS 90% CAUSED BY ALL THE CRAZY HOROMONES WREAKING HAVOC ON YOUR BODY. YOU WILL NOT CARE. OR BE ABLE TO STOP YOURSELF. YOU WILL CRY.
And your poor, sweet husband will make the mistake of saying, "It's okay." And you will say (or scream),"It's okay for you because you don't have to find something to wear!" And you will ball your eyes out on his chest and then pull away, realizing you now only have 10 minutes to get dressed and re-do your makeup, to find a nearly perfect, if slightly warped, tear-drawn imprint of your face on his grey t-shirt. And then you will realize that that is pretty funny.
________________________
Yep, so far, that's what I've learned, and somehow, I'm still looking forward to the next twenty weeks. Because, at the risk of sounding totally sappy (darn you, blasted horomones), pregnancy is a pretty joyful experience.
